  • DVC fixed week--learned something

We got to thinking a fixed week (aka "guaranteed week" as Disney labels it) might be worth our while since we are unlikely ever to go any time other than our 3rd week of November--when we've gone every year since 2013 but one...well, actually two, but who wants to count "Covid Year"?

We thought the fixed week locked you into that specific week each year, but it doesn't! You have a deadline by which you must cancel your week for that year--and when you do, your FW points become regular ones that you can use another time in the year, for a different resort at 7 mos., or can bank. Being able to bank them could be really nice if you were able to stay longer the next year.

Long story shorter, as we discovered upon buying in, we'd have to win the lottery to afford a fixed week contract.

Sure would be fun, though, to have that flexibility if you can buy a fixed week contract. Makes sense that the Disney points system allows those options compared with other timeshares.

I've never even looked at the fixed week contracts, as that sounded too much like a traditional timeshare to us and we like the flexibility to go when we like. Interesting discovery though...

I think the way DVC has gone you’d need to win the lottery just to buy in even without a fixed week

we had too many points now we have gone from 2 bedrooms to 1 bedrooms and I objected to paying for points I don’t really need even though I’d always manage to use them. So I sold a few VGC points 18 months ago and they were bought out before listing so I probably could have held out for more and I sold them for way more than I paid. Couldn’t really believe what people were willing to pay.

          Silly me! You’re quite right.

I completely blanked out that October trip.

Wow, that sounds crazy. Good to know though that there's still the demand. Mind you, I can imagine Grand Californian points being some of the most sought after...
