  • Ideas to keep us busy and sane

Since we're all staying home a lot more I thought I'd start a thread for ideas of things we can do to keep ourselves busy and sane

  • #2
    I'll start the list.

At https://www.edx.org/ you can audit classes at a number of universities, including Harvard, for free.

    https://www.travelandleisure.com/att...-virtual-tours
is a link to an article that lists twelve museums that have virtual tours

Don't forget to check your library's website as you most likely can check out digital copies of book and download them to your device.

      What a great idea.

Something that keeps me busy and sane is watching the donkey webcams from the Donkey Sanctuary over here https://www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/webcams but I know lots of zoos, animal parks and aquariums have similar things and let's face it, watching animals at play is really fun and calming at the same time.

It’s not fun but it’s a good time to organize. Clean out those closets and drawers. I actually think you feel better when you’re more organized and clutter free.

In addition to the library downloads, Bookbub. com offers tons of free downloads too.

For those with children, I heard on the radio this morning that Josh Gad (voice of Olaf) is reading a storybook each night to kids using different voices. They played a clip of him reading "Olivia" and it was so cute. I believe it is on his twitter account, and there are a few loaded on there already.

I love to read, and as others mentioned, it can be free through your local library if you have a card and Bookbub where some are free and others are low cost.
On the nightly news during a Q & A, the doctor was asked about the safety of going outside. He said it is fine, so we took a walk today.

I was just reading an article that says it’s important now with all our social distancing to get out of the house and get fresh air. I’m going to start walking too.

I'm continuing to walk for as long as we're allowed to. Everyone over here is saying it's good for your mental health and provided you stick to social distancing, it's fine. When I walked yesterday, the people I saw were keeping a good distance from each other. The day before, I only saw four people out during my 20+ minute walk, so social distancing wasn't exactly hard....

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere and they're both Disney related and on the Disney Parks Blog:

I just did my first online grocery order. It will not be delivered until next Friday but it is comforting knowing it's coming. It also took me quite a bit of time.

We've been able to walk the last couple of days in our neighborhood - grateful for pleasant, breezy days. I think unfortunately, the weather is going to turn rainy again. I want to get a couple of more meals in the freezer so I can do a good cleaning of my kitchen with all of the cooking I've done this week.

Trying to stay moving at home - there are tons of different at-home workouts (all different levels) on YouTube and a lot of the "streaming" fitness classes are doing free memberships/trials right now.

My neighborhood has a Facebook page and today one of the mom's posted a great idea. We are coloring Easter Egg pages, cutting them out and putting them in a window that faces the street. That way when moms and dads take their kids out for a walk they can still have an Easter egg hung this year while still keeping social distancing. I'm going to be looking for them, too, when Luke and I can walk. I just found a coloring page online and even colored it online. Such an easy way to brighten folks day during this trying time.

Our neighborhood is doing similar things to that. There's something different every few days. I've also see "Going on a Bear Hunt" promoted with teddy bears in the windows.

I like that idea and may suggest it after we finish this one. Our street is mainly older folks, but the further back in the neighborhood, the more children.

My neighborhood did the same thing, but with shamrocks. We then had a shamrock scavenger hunt and families either walked or drove around the neighborhood looking for the shamrocks.
