I kept a diary from 1986 until the early 2000s. I also kept a journal throughout our various lockdowns. That ran to almost 500 days of 2020 and 2021 in the end...

I had one in grade school back in the early 70’s. I don’t recall writing in it much. I’ve never kept one since.

My grandmother gave me a small diary when I turned 13, which I wrote in some, though not regularly. Later in the summer before my freshman year, I began writing in a spiral notebook. I kept that up off and on for a few years. I had class in college that required a journal as a major part of the grade. That time journaling stuck. I have kept one almost every year since then, writing in it every day. Forty-two years later, I have a large collection of journals saved in boxes. I've never counted them, but it's a lot.

No, I never had the discipline to do so.

LOL, when I'd try, it would last MAYBE 3 days, unless I was doing it for school.

OTOH, when I was learning to fly, I wrote about every single flight and posted it in another forum, where my online friends were very supportive. That was great fodder for when I made a scrapbook album about the whole thing. I suppose that counts as a journal, if not a diary.

I had a friend in college who kept lengthy journals; I can't see doing that myself, but I respect the effort.

I've been doing one for the last several years. Both my parents kept a journal.

The first semester of my freshman year of college my English professor required us to keep a journal. We had to write at least 10 sentences for at least 5 days a week. Even after I was finished with that class, I continued to write in it almost every day for the rest of that school year but stopped doing it during the summer and never started again.

I’ve never been able to keep up with one until I started a digital one to track my back surgery symptoms and I’ve kept it up with at least a few highlights of the day. I have so many empty paper journals I’ve been purging recently to donate.

    Question of the Day 9/22/22

    Good Thursday, pixies!

Have you ever kept a journal or diary?

As a child, I had one of those diaries with an attached lock, and I suppose I wrote some things in it, but I have never really kept a journal or diary that I have stowed away for all my life.
