Good Saturday, everyone!

When was the last time you attended a memorial service? We are doing that today. Joel’s grandmother and my former mother-in-law passed away earlier this week at age 93, and today is her service. It will be simple, graveside only. Joel is serving as a pallbearer, which warms my heart. We’re not saddened, but hopeful in her passing. Plus, she lived a life filled with love and family. She and “granddaddy “ were married 65 years prior to his passing a few years ago.

In November of 2020 when my father-in-law passed.

April 2013 when my father passed away.

In February 2018 when my dad passed away.

This past September, my last aunt on my dad's side (married to dad's brother) died, on the same day my youngest grandson was born. I went to her service the next weekend (drove approx. 10 hours each way).

About 3 months ago when a friend of ours passed away after a brief but aggressive battle with ALS (about 6 months from diagnosis to her passing).

Almost a year ago now, when Mark's mum died - it was early December. Before that, we had his dad's memorial service in October 2021 and his aunt's in November 2021. It was a very tough few months.

I work at an Assisted Living, Memory Care facility so memorial services I attend much too frequently. The last one was last week for all the residents who passed in 2022.

This past February when my uncle died. He was 92.

Probably +20 years ago when my step-grandmother’s husband died. The circumstances were awful and I just happened to be in town when the funeral was taking place. A lot of people were mad at me because I didn’t take DDs 3/4 who were still preschool. I pretty much decided at that point that I don’t feel the need to attend services anymore. No one in the immediate family has plans for one, I think most of us feel the same way.
